Babywearing is something that I have yet to experience. I’ve seen many parents doing this almost everywhere and I say it looks pretty easy and very convenient instead of a stroller – No more elevators, bulky carriage and you can go anywhere as if you are simply carrying a bag… talk about portability.
The concept is simple: You-carry-your-baby.
I am a research person and that’s why I love reading blogs – especially Mom blogs nowadays ever since I’ve been one. Their recommendations are what sells a product to me because their reviews are as real as one can get. And so the search for the perfect carrier begins…
Baby Carriers are very indemand now and so comes the vast selection. From types, to brands, to colors, sizes and features and It can get pretty overwhelming. With this, you have to identify your needs to be able to narrow down your choices.
And here is what I am looking for:
- Can be use from Newborn to Toddler without the need for infant insert.
- Can do front facing position.
- Comfortable for Mommy’s use.
- For the price: I understand that SSCs are pricey (almost the same price of a stroller) but as long as its brand is established and trusted, the quality is very good then I’ll just turn a blind eye😂
- Hope Daddy can use too.
Okay so that was quite a list but I have narrowed my choices to three and will discuss them in a while.
But first let me talk about what I’ve learned about babywearing so far..
Babywearing is not a new trend as it can be traced way back to our ancestors (tribe people – they use clothe as wraps then). From there it has evolved and is now known in its many faces: Mei Tai, Ring Sling, Woven Wrap, Stretch Wrap and the most popular and modern SSC (Soft Structured Carriers), which is my choice.
I have tried the SaYa (Pricing at Php 950.00) which is a stretch wrap and I was confused and kind of disappointed. It is hard to set up that I never get to use it. I ordered it when Seb is only 3 weeks, tried it with my husband’s help. Even with the manual and watching YouTube videos – we still fail. I find it too snug and fit that I am scared to put my baby in it in fear that he’ll get squish. I have the right size naman but I don’t know I am just not confident to use it.
And so I look for other wraps and find the Baby K’Tan breeze which look very promising. It is half mesh, half cloth so the airflow is present which is really important especially in Philippine weather. It does not seem that complicated to use and has more support. For the price of around Php 3,000 it was a candidate. Was I say because I thought that wraps would not be for my long term use as it has a tendency to sag if Seb becomes heavier which is inevitable. So from wraps I’ve jumped to an SSC.
SSC is sturdier and will grow with my baby. And from my research my top choices are:
ERGOBABY 360 – (still needs an infant insert) can be used from 7-33 lbs, has a front facing feature, ErgoBaby is the top brand when it comes to baby carriers so the quality is expected to be superb. TULA – still needs an infant insert and no front facing position but from reviews mothers say that these are the most comfortable to use as it fits the wearer very well. Also the https://www.tribobot.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/1.png are very stylish, I am so inlove with the block gray and star design.
LILLEBABY All Seasons – no need for infant insert, has 6 positions including front facing and can be use from newborn to toddlers years so that’s 7-45 lbs. Has a lumbar support too which is brilliant.
These SSCs cost pretty much the same, pricing at around Php 5,000 ++ costly I know but I’d rather spend than risk my baby falling (nooooooo!) All are available in the country. The Ergobaby and Lillebaby can be purchase in The Baby Company at selected SM stores but TULA has an exclusive distributor which is the CEO Emporium whose store is located in San Juan.
I am pretty much solved to LILLEBABY because its very “sulit”. Still need to try them personally prior to buying which will happen in the next few weeks. Seb is exactly 2 months now and I plan to start wearing him at around 3 months to make sure that his head and neck are stronger.
