A Review of The Purpose Driven Life

This blog is dedicated to you.

This an edited excerpt from the famous book “The Purpose Driven Life” by Rick Warren.

The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren

It is a spiritual book meant to touch lives that may lead to change. It was years ago since I first read the book and up until now I can remember my highlighted phrases.

Upon writing this entry, I reviewed the book and once again felt alive and holy in his presence. There’s just some books, wherein you feel like it is personally talking to you.

To be honest, I am not really a religious person. I do have faith but I can say that times and circumstances changed me. FAITH – I gained and lost and it was never the same.

Reading books such as this makes me think and rearrange my thoughts for a better life. I believe and live one day at a time with this new found thoughts in life.

With this, Let me share these thoughts and some of my insights too.

As the book said: THIS BOOK IS DEDICATED TO YOU.  Yes, it speaks to you of how you see yourself, what is expected of you, how to change and when to start. It speaks to you in a way of encouragement which leads to your agreement and action.

POSSESSIONS PROVIDE TEMPORARY HAPPINESS.

Everything worldly and materialistic gets old and used up. And it is through something intangible that one can achieved real happiness.

THOSE WHO FOLLOW THE CROWD USUALLY GET LOST IN IT.

God has given us unique talents to stand out not to be in anyone’s shadow and remain in the back seat. He’ll give us that shining stage and light once we’d we are ready to show off.

Remember: ONE KEY TO FAILURE IS TO TRY TO PLEASE EVERYONE.

If you want a great life and happiness, then you have to walk out of your comfort zone and take a risk. See, FEAR-DRIVEN PEOPLE OFTEN MISS GREAT OPPORTUNITIES BECAUSE THEY’RE AFRAID TO VENTURE OUT. You will never know what is behind a door lest you open it wide and walk through it, same goes with life and adventures, you’ll never experience it unless you walk though it.

This is one thing that really hits me and make me wonder:

Without a clear purpose, you will keep changing directions, jobs, relationships, churches, or other externals  –hoping each change will settle the confusion.

Change is good but to do it all the time whenever something went wrong is a form of cowardice. You have to give your all first, the best effort and be able to say that I’d done the best I could before giving in.

A picture of forever in Heaven…

  • This Life is not all there is. (Do not get too attached to your worldly belonging as you will not be able to bring it with you in the end.)
  • In Heaven we will be reunited with loved ones who are believers, released from all pain and suffering, rewarded for our faithfulness on Earth, and reassigned to do work that we will enjoy doing. (Isn’t that promising? to once again meet the ones we lost, and to do work that we’ll enjoy?)
  • Measured against eternity, out time on Earth is just a blink of an eye, but the consequence of it will last forever. The deeds of this life are destiny of the next.
  • LIFE IS A TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENT. –You won’t be here long, so do not get too attached!

To some this statements may be fearful, for as humans we fear death. I for one, am sure fear death, as I do not know what is beyond it. But reading this gives me an insight, a hope and understanding that maybe the room next here isn’t so bad and scary.

LIVE WITH PURPOSE. Living on purpose is the only way to really live. Everything else is just existing.

Now, ask yourself… What on Earth Am I here for?

Thank you for reading!
